Snowmen gather crystals
hoping for enough to line the pines
for Christmas,
arguing white, silver, blue,
breathing steam like locomotives,
green grass grows
flowers bloom out of season
everyone drinks peppermint tea
old woman named Irene
splashed through a puddle in her bare feet
to ask me what time it was
It's winter, I told her,
Oh, but I saw redbuds,
there are dandelions,
She mumbled her way indoors
to wait.
