Merry Meet Again

Merry meet and merry part
And merry meet again,
Just when we think it's over,
It begins..

The evening light shown round us here
And in that light so dim,
We missed the lilt of the words you'd say,
As we gathered with your kin,

May your Ancestors welcome you,
and greet you at the hearth
And toast you well with reveries
of other deaths and births,

That you have known in other times
Those stories you'll hear true,
The valiant deeds and lessons learned
And all that you once knew,

Now this chapter's ended,
And the gates have opened wide,
The morning sun greets you well,
On the other side,

Oh say a prayer for your Earth kin
Until we meet you there,
Until our stories, too, unfold,
Please hold us in your prayers,

Perhaps we'll come along before
You've returned again,
On one side or the other,
We will meet again, my friend,

Merry meet and Merry part
And merry meet again....

(A Samhain song -- found by my little mountain dulcimer, Addie Bell --  across the wheel, here at Beltane. Inspired, of course, by my brother Delbert and the fact that he often personified in this life the other lives he'd known.)

Dedicated to Delbert Leon Peek -- January 30, 1944 to April 8, 2011
